And She Turns Two

This weekend Sophia turned 2, and we celebrated with a melting pot of cajun and mexican festivities. The weather was gorgeous and we sprawled out in the backyard on blankets, kicked off our shoes, listened to an eclectic mix of putumayo world music and the Beatles, and several of us sipped on some ice cold beer, while the kiddies played at the bubble table and the sandbox. Mike had his infamous crawfish boil, Yvonne did some beautiful face painting (on kiddies AND grown ups), and we finished off with a piñata and cascarones.

I had the BEST time. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed myself so much (being the hostess of a party, that is). There was this wonderful *energy* in the air, that filled me with deep and profound happiness. When I look back at photos when I was a child, of my parents celebrating events with family and friends in the 70's, I felt that sense of nostalgia return on Saturday. Something about the people who were here, I know will be still be around for many years to come.

A big thank you to Holly, for coming over at noon and running the streets to help this frazzled momma out. To my soul sistah, Yvonne, for being so friggin' awesome. You make some of the most delicious desserts from scratch, and I appreciate you sitting for hours painting over a dozen faces. To my father in law for helping Mike set up the night before. And to Mike, for working his hiney off cooking the crawfish and for having the guts to walk around looking like a ring-master from a circus.

And, of course, many thanks to all our friends and family who came out on a Saturday to help us celebrate.

It's as if you can see in his eyes right down to his lil soul.

It was the mamarazzi at our Casa. There were FOUR Canon SLRs clicking away in my backyard. How cool is that.

Thank you Bonnie and Mel for capturing what was so hard for me to do.

Now here are where the professional photos come!
Bonnie has posted some shots on her blog.
